In the summer of 2014, I moved to Brooklyn and worked as a photography intern at Pioneer Works. Few words can accurately describe the creative atmosphere distilled into this former iron works warehouse. In 2011, artist and founder Dustin Yellin bought the building and transformed it into what is now Pioneer Works. It's one of those places that is hard to describe without having seen it, and once you do it's hard to believe. What I usually tell people: art and science residencies, classes, lectures, live performances, concerts, a garden bigger than every apartment you've ever inhabited in New York combined, Townes (the foundation dog); some of the most talented and motivated people I've had the likelihood to meet and their ongoing mission to benefit the Red Hook community. Create discourse. Provide safe space.
